Rope Stanchions & Barriers

A rope barrier says something a belt barrier does not. In a hotel lobby, a theatre, a gallery or a members' entrance, the post and rope are part of the room rather than equipment placed in it. These are the traditional stanchions, in two ranges and every combination of top and base.

Elegance or RopeMaster?

• Elegance is the premium range — heavy-gauge steel with a solid cast iron base. Polished finishes are buffed to a mirror; satin finishes are hand-turned so the grain is even. Choose it where the barrier is on show and will stay in service for years.
• RopeMaster is the economy range, with the look of a traditional velvet rope setup at a lower price. Choose it for occasional use, for large quantities, or where budget matters more than the last ten percent of finish quality.

Post top: flat, crown or ball

Mostly an aesthetic choice, with one practical consequence:

• Flat top — contemporary, and can be tapped to take post-top signage.
• Crown top — the classic red-carpet profile, and can also be tapped for signage.
• Ball top — the most traditional look, but it cannot be tapped and will not accept a sign frame. If you may ever want signage on the post, do not choose ball top.

Base: dome, sloped, profile, fixed or removable

Dome and sloped bases are free-standing and get moved. Fixed bases bolt to the floor and removable bases drop into a floor socket — see fixed and removable stanchions for how those install, and note that sockets are ordered separately.

Two things to order alongside

The rope is separate. Posts are sold without rope, so add the length and style you need from stanchion ropes — velvet, Naugahyde, braided or polypropylene, with snap or hook ends to match your post finish. Maximum recommended rope length is 6 ft; longer spans sag and lose the clean drape that is the whole point.

For outdoor or coastal use, select the weatherized option where offered — plated finishes are not suited to weather without it.
