School Safety Stanchions

School crossing stanchions mark a walking route for children, which is a different problem from marking one for adults. The barrier has to be visible at a child's eye level, light enough for staff to set out and collect daily, and stable enough to survive being knocked by a rucksack.

Sizing for daily handling

Available in 2", 2.5" and 3" diameters at roughly 40-41" overall height. The practical consideration is who puts them out: if the same member of staff sets the route every morning, the lighter 2" or 2.5" post is the one that will actually get used. A 3" heavy duty post is the right answer where the barrier stays out permanently.

Chain size and gaps

Chain is available from 1" to 3" link. For a crossing route, closer post spacing with lighter chain holds a cleaner line than widely spaced posts with heavy chain — a long sagging span invites ducking under it, which is precisely the behaviour you are trying to prevent.

Visibility

For crossings used before sunrise in winter or on an unlit approach, reflective striped posts are worth the difference. Drivers are the risk, and reflective posts are picked up by headlights well before a plain colour is.
